VICC 2010


The Conference was held at the headquarters of the Centro de Estudios Científicos (CECs) in Valdivia, southern Chile, between February 1-3, 2010, as part of the bicentennial celebration of Chile's Independence. The Conference was open to scientists, professionals and general public interested in the topic of climate changes. The Conference included the presence of prominent world experts in glaciology and climate changes, including members of the Scientific Steering Group of the Climate and Cryosphere (CliC) Project of WCRP-SCAR, who were meet in Valdivia immediately following the Conference. The experts were lead open discussions regarding recent scientific advances in climate changes and glaciology. Posters sessions were held in addition to photographic exhibitions on climate change issues. One of the goals of the Conference was produce a summary of cryosphere changes and their predicted impacts, with the aim of informing the general public and decision makers on adaptation and mitigation strategies to deal with the consequences of climate change.

On October 27, 2010 it was inaugurated the II International symposium, "Reconstructing Climate Variations in South America and the Antarctic Peninsula over the last 2000 years". The program included 96 presentations between oral and posters, from specialists coming from 15 countries, including Southern and Northern America as well as Europe.
This meeting held in the premises of the Centro de Estudios Científicos (CECs) , brought together more than 200 experts from different fields of climate dynamics , paleoclimatology and glaciology . The presentations made delivered very good data on past climate in Latin America and Antarctica. This meeting created a space for many studies of the region make themselves known. The symposium was broadcast online via the website and was followed by 130 people from different parts of the world.



Symposium on Mass Balance of Andean Glaciers and 1st Mass Balance Workshop for Andean Glaciers


This Symposium on Mass Balance of Andean Glaciers was being organized by the Working Group on Andean Glaciers of ICSI (International Commission of Snow and Ice) – IAHS (International Association of Hydrological Sciences), and being held at the Centro de Estudios Científicos (CECs), Valdivia, Chile. The goal of the Symposium was to present advances and current understanding related to mass balance and glacier changes of Andean glaciers of South America.
